June 2, 2018- Lake Ferguson Tournament

The Mississippi River Anglers Association conducted its third 2018 Summer Trail Tournament last Saturday June 2nd with 31 boats fishing in the event.  With all the HOT weather we’ve already had, I reduced the weigh in time to 2 and the tournament limit to 4 fish in hopes of not having very many deal fish!  Some people didn’t understand this, but I feel it’s best for the bass. We officially only had three recorded dead bass brought in, but looking down at the lake there were several more fish that didn’t survive the stress of the day.  Two things to keep in mind this time of year, the warmer the water is the less oxygen it can hold, and the warmer the water is the higher the metabolism rate of the fish is, so these are two negative factors to keep in mind in trying to keep you’re bass alive in hot weather. Theirs numerous thing you can do to improve keeping your fish alive in the live well in hot weather, you can google it to find out more, or ask me, I’ll be happy to tell you what we do.

OK in the tournament Saturday at Lake Ferguson, first place went to the father and son team from Greenwood, Scott and Jay Mitchell, their 4 bass limit weighed in at 14.23 lbs., coming in second place was a team from Cleveland and Greenville, Chris William and Buddy Tutor their 4 bass limit weighed in at 13.77 lbs. which included the tournament lunker of 5.34 lbs., third place went to a team from Moorhead and Greenville, Austin Jones and myself, our 4 bass limit weighed in at 12.82 lbs., there was a tie for fourth place between the teams of  Charlie Jennings / Pete Cora and Matthew Bates / Brandon Williams, their 4 bass limits weighed in at 12.67lbs., I combined the money between 4th and 5th place and divided it between the two teams, coming in sixth place was a team from Cleveland, Randy Bolden Jr. and Jeff Lindsey, however Lennie Smith substituted for Jeff and their 4 bass limit went 12.60 lbs., coming in seventh place and getting the last check was a team from Clarksdale and Mantachie, Allen Powell and Jackie Robertson, there 4 bass limit weighed in at 12.21lbs. Close weights for sure, 2 pounds separating 1st through 7th, one big bit Saturday went a long way. Congratulation to all the money winners, great job by everyone.

Our next MRAA event will be June 30, launching from either Lake Whittington or Log Loader depending on what the Mississippi River does. I’ll let everyone know at least a week ahead of time.
